the mental side of tracking your nutritional intake. Helder and I talk about how vital it is to track your food. If you don't track, it is impossible for us to "tweek" anything in order to keep you progression on track itself. IYou know the drill so we won't delve too much into that side of things. But let's look at the mental aspect of it:

Have you had days when you were starting out that tracking food was a complete and utter BALLACHE?! I certainly did. I found it stressful, annoying, confusing to say the least and time consuming! Logging all my foods, working out what I could have and what I couldn't etc. Some days I wanted to throw MyFitnessPal in the bin! It was more like MyFitnessBigBrother - watching everything I was going to put into my mouth and highlighting that I had nearly hit my carb allowance for the day - or my sugar goal was to remain below 80g for the day, well there goes my evening banana!

I've had a couple of people state that it's monopolising their time that they would much more enjoy with their family. It's s much easier to whack everything on a plate and enjoy it altogether. Then I ask how long have they been tracking.....4 days............EVERYTHING is difficult, annoying and a complete ballache for the first four days! You need to get used to it and create the habit of it before it becomes easy.

I have now been tracking my intake for 2 years. It started with calories, then protein and calories and now all four macronutrients, protein, carbs fats and fibre. I now find tracking easy and part of my daily tasks. When I have to cook my meal prep for my days at work, I take five minutes out of my Saturday night - usually when the kids are brushing their teeth and input what I'm going to make for the week. Then come Sunday morning, I'm in the kitchen for approximately one hour and I have 3 meals to take to work with me for the next three days.

You see tracking macros is what you make it. If you have the mindset that it is going to be a ballache and difficult, then it will be. However, if you have the mindset that you want to loose that weight, get a six pack for the holiday or even make it on stage one day, tracking will be the best thing EVER!

Your mind is a powerful thing, not just in nutrition and training but in all aspects of life. If you go to work thinking its going to be a horrible day.....guess what.....it more than likely is. Switch it around and walk into work with a smile and saying "Good morning" to everyone you pass by. It will brighten up your day even if they are miserable! I do it every morning when I walk into the theatres at work, and I was told the other day that I was always so happy! Even when I have a bad day at work, I always have a GOOD day, because I made it a good day. I pulled the positives from the negatives and made it what I wanted it to be. So get up, get dressed and be positive. Make your day what you want it to be.
