What is the best training plan???

In simple terms the best training plan out there is the one you can stick to!!!! #simples

A training plan needs to be realistic, enjoyable and flexible. If these 3 rules are not applied I believe consistency will become an issue and in the end the person WILL quit the program and start something else and they will keep going in circles and never really achieve the goal they are after!!

We are all looking for fast results but until we commit to the long haul we will never realize our full potential.

Lets look at time, when you set up you training plan what is your goal??? With summer already here and most people trying to look good for holiday, they look at cookie cutter training programs like a six weeks plan and to no surprise they run into trouble because that is just not enough time for most!!

Instead it would have been a much better idea to have planned phases over the year, where you have a gaining phase and then a cutting phase with enough time to achieve your end goal.

Now we need to look at your schedule. Are you a father or a mother who works a normal job, has family commitments in the week and weekends???? Well if this is you, it doesn’t mean you can’t get results but the key thing here is to not commit to something that can’t be sustainable. If you look at people on social media that have a great physique, they may be training 6 times per week, spending 2 hours in the gym and to be honest for most people this is just not achievable. So start with what you can do, if this means 3 days in the gym then start with that and always think about fitting your training program to what is realistic to you.

A key thing to remember is that consistency is the key to progress!!

Now once the realistic part is out of the way we need to look if the plan is enjoyable. I am a sucker for perfect from and learning lines of force, where the muscle is weak and where the muscle is strong and I thrive on that, however a lot of people don’t want to think about that, they just want to get in the gym and train hard, deadlift, squat, etc…….. So why is enjoyment so important??? Well like anything in life, if we enjoy it we will do it.

Not lets look at flexibility within your program.

As mentioned above, if you are working a normal job and have family commitments there will be times where training will get in the way, when this happens its important we have flexibility to keep making progress towards our goals. Set up a program to suit you, however if you have a day where you feel terrible, weak, you have to look after your kids, you have to work then take the day off and don’t worry, you will not lose all your gains!! Just go back the next day and carry on as normal.

Next time you looking at setting up your program make sure you apply these 3 rules and if you adhere to them you will find results will follow.
