The Bank Holiday Excuse.

Today I wanted to talk about what we do here at HB Nutrition. We encourage a LIFESTYLE change, not a diet, not a 12 week plan where at the end of it you are left to your own devices scratching your head and ending up where you started. A complete change in your mind set, your relationship with food and a positive outlook in your future health.

Now, someone asked me what I was going to do on the bank holiday - my response was "The same as I do on a non-bank-holiday!" I was almost bowled over by their quick retort which was "Do you not want to prioritise your family and eat off plan, enjoy the day with them, you know RELAX once in a while?!" Let me tell you what I did on bank holiday Monday. I went to the gym as normal at 6am. I returned and was back in time to wake my children and husband up, we all cooked breakfast together and enjoyed it leisurely. We then all went to the gym together as there was a family fun day on which included a bouncy castle (obviously I had a bounce......don't judge me). Afterwards, we returned home and had a massive lunch together followed by a nature walk with the dog. Back home to play a game of Star Wars Monopoly.....I lost so wasn't happy......finally finishing off our fun packed day with a delicious meal of Kangaroo burgers, garlic and thyme potatoes and fresh vegetables. This was very quickly followed by ice cream all around! Now you tell me what isn't prioritising my family about that day? I included them in EVERYTHING. My training session was completed before they woke up, which is why I always train at that time. All my meals were on point and fit my allocated macros perfectly. I didn't feel ill, bloated or lethargic and the whole family enjoyed their day.

I have always said that Bodybuilding is a hobby and I would never let it get in the way of my family life. However when I started this journey, I told myself this was a lifestyle change, so a bank holiday is part of life! Why do we feel the need to eat crap food simply because it's a bank holiday? Why do we feel the need to make it a special occasion?

There are always going to be bank holidays, always going to be birthdays, always going to be weekends. If you are serious about changing your life, then change it everyday, not just Monday to Friday. Don't get me wrong, life is too short to miss out on special occasions like birthdays, stag do's or such like. So fit those occasions into your goals. I had ice cream, I just manipulated my previous meals in order to fit that ice cream in which is why flexible dieting is a lifestyle that is sustainable. You CAN have your cake and eat it without jeopardising your goals. Just don't use "days" as an excuse. If you create that excuse then your lifestyle hasn't changed. Let us help you change your life so you can enjoy the things you want to enjoy without the excuses.
