Training Twice Per Day

So one of the main questions I get from lifters, mainly non assisted lifters, is if training twice per day is counter productive when trying to build muscle or losing weight whilst building muscle.

My thoughts on training twice per day is a positive one, I actually believe training with weights twice per day can be very beneficial but as usual the word “depends” massively comes into it.

The main problem with training twice per day is that most people cannot recover due to poor nutrition, poor sleep, to much stress in normal day to day life and all this leads to illness, injury and overall a very counterproductive if your main goal is building muscle and maintaining or losing fat.

So twice per day training is 100% not for everyone.

Now when can twice per day training be beneficial?

In my honest opinion twice per day training can be hugely beneficial if you have a lot of the basics covered, as outlined below.

  • Nutrition is on Point

  • Intra Workout Protocols are on point

  • Pre and post workout meals are on point

  • Sleep is on point

  • Stress levels are controlled outside the gym

  • If have enough time in the day

  • If you separating each session by at least 6 hours

  • Your workout plan is planned and structured to fit in with your goals.

Nutrition is going to be key to training twice per day, specially, PRE/INTRA/POST, without these basics training twice per day will NOT be ideal.

I totally do not agree with training like this all year around, as with everything when it comes to coaching I have a toolbox full of tools that I use to get myself and my clients in the best shape of their life and training twice per day is just one of the tools I use to reach the goals that are set out.

So if you are thinking of training twice per day ask yourself if you are covering the above points and if so plan it and execute it.

Twice per day training is ok for natural trainees just make sure you covered as mentioned above.

Building muscle doesn’t have to be complicated, to many people out there are looking for the next big thing that is going to make all the difference, FLASH NEWS – IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN!!!!
