We talk a lot about testosterone in the health and fitness industry, however one thing that does not get enough attention is estrogen.

Today I am going to give you an insight into estrogen and provide you with very easy to implement strategies.

Unfortunately a lot of the foods we eat in today’s world are extremely conducive to estrogen build up, a lot of the processed foods, restaurant foods, take away’s, etc, are the worst culprits! So let’s talk about some key ideas and strategies on how to counter this.

Before we do that however, let’s spends a few minutes on why we should control estrogen in the first place, as some estrogen is good, but like all things, excess is bad.

Does excess estrogen makes us fat?

Excessive estrogen promotes the growth of estrogen sensitive fatty tissues, for women this is often the bum and thighs, and for men usually belly fat. This is what we call stubborn FAT!

These stubborn areas are very sensitive to estrogen, and when you provide estrogen to them a couple of things happen. You promote more fat gain, and you also enlarge the fatty tissue itself.

Not what we want right??

So what can we actually do? Lets look at some anti-estrogenic foods that can 100% help.

Cruciferous veggies like Kale, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage and cauliflower are great.

Omega 3 is very good at managing excess estrogen by providing a better ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3, as we already know excess Omega 6 in your diet is not good and causes all kinds of issues, mainly inflammation, and yes excess estrogen build up. The preferred source for omega 3 is from salmon, sardines, mackerel, and flaxseed powder amongst others.

Nuts and Seeds are great foods because they have a substance in them called plant sterol that actually increases your testosterone and progesterone levels. Having healthy levels of these two hormones balances out excess estrogen. Nuts and seeds are always best consumed raw to get the benefits of the lipase, which is the digestive enzyme for fats.

Another great food is avocados, they promote testosterone and progesterone production, similar to the nuts and seeds, consume these raw to get the lipase benefit.

There are some nasty chemicals that show up in plastics and tins, and we all know how much plastics and tins are a huge part of today’s society. We need to make sure we try to stay away from stuff that comes in tins, like tinned tuna and other tinned foods, if you drink bottled water make sure you don’t keep that bottle for more than 2 days and do not re-heat any food in plastic containers.

I have always believed in eating organic but this can be very expensive, unfortunately these day animals are fed lots of pesticide-laden food, pumped full of antibiotics and hormones.

You should make sure that any source of animal fat you consume (eggs, beef, milk, etc.) is organic. Also, you need to pay attention to fruits and veggies. Some of these should be consumed organic as well.

All of the above are things you can do to manage estrogen, specially woman who struggle to lose the stubborn body fat around the bum and legs.
